Mińsk Mazowiecki is a city in Poland in the Masovian Voivodeship .

history

In the 14th century, a settlement called Mińsk, Mieńsk and Mensco developed on the banks of the Mienia River . On May 29, 1421 the knight Jan von Gościeńczyce received the right to found a private town under Kulm law from Duke Janusz I. In 1422 the construction of a wooden parish church was finished. In 1468 the place received further privileges; so he was now allowed to hold a weekly market and three annual markets . From 1525 the city was allowed to hold four annual markets. In 1547, a hospital donated by Anna Mińska was mentioned. In 1549, Mikołaj Wolski founded the town of Sendomierz , which was later incorporated. On March 2, 1563, King Sigismund II. August released the hospital from all taxes on their land, both to the kingdom and to the city. From 1655 to 1657 the city was devastated during the Swedish-Polish War from 1655 to 1660 (Second Northern War) . On April 30, 1657 , the Swedish King Karl X. Gustav stayed in Mińsk. With the Third Partition of Poland , the city fell to Austria . In 1810 the city became part of the newly founded Duchy of Warsaw and, after its end, part of Congress Poland . During the November Uprising there was fighting against the Russians on April 26th and July 14th, 1831. In 1867 the city was connected to the rail network. In 1868 the name of the place was changed from Mińsk to Nowomińsk , on July 7, 1916 to today's Mińsk Mazowiecki . A power station was completed in January 1926 . The Wehrmacht reached the city on September 12, 1939 . A day later there was a battle with parts of the Polish army under Władysław Anders . On July 30, 1944, the city was liberated by the Polish Home Army ( Armia Krajowa ) and the Red Army also moved in, whose air force mistakenly bombed the city the following day. The Soviet secret service later murdered some important residents of the city.
