Michel Chapuis (organist)
Michel Chapuis (born January 15, 1930 in Dole ; † November 12, 2017 there ) was a French organist .
Live and act
From 1946 Michel Chapuis took part in the courses of Edouard Souberbielle at the École César Franck in Paris . In 1950 he became a student of Marcel Dupré at the Paris Conservatory . In 1951 he won first prize in the subjects of organ and improvisation. He became organist at Saint-Germain-l'Auxerrois , Saint-Nicolas-des-Champs , in 1964 at the organ of Saint-Séverin restored by Alfred Kern , then at the choir organ of Notre-Dame de Paris and in 1995 at the historic organ of Versailles Palace . From 1956 he was professor at the Conservatories of Strasbourg and Besançon , from 1986 to 1995 at the Conservatoire de Paris . He has held organ academies across Europe, the United States and Japan.
As an organist, Chapuis devoted himself particularly to the German and French music of the 17th and 18th centuries. He made recordings of the works of Johann Sebastian Bach , Dietrich Buxtehude , François and Louis Couperin , Nicolas de Grigny , Jean Titelouze , Jean-François Dandrieu , Louis-Nicolas Clérambault and Louis-Claude Daquin . As a member of the Commission supérieure des Monuments historiques since 1967, he campaigned for the preservation and reconstruction of historical organs.
