Alfred Kern & fils is an Alsatian organ building company based in Strasbourg .

history

The company was founded in 1953 by Alfred Kern (* February 12, 1910, † October 13, 1989). The manufacture relied on classic mechanical organs from the start . In 1961, Kern built the organ in the village church of Günsbach according to plans by Albert Schweitzer , which he described as his "last work". In 1977 Kern's son Daniel Kern († 2019) took over the company.

In France there are numerous new organs by Kern, among others in Strasbourg, in the Church of Saint-Jean-de-Malte in Aix-en-Provence , in the Anglican Church and in Sainte-Jeanne-de-Chantal in Paris and in the Church of Saint -Pothin in Lyon as well as in Japan and Austria. In Germany, the organs in Stadthagen , Burg (Dithmarschen) , Bremen-Lesum and the organ of the newly built Frauenkirche in Dresden were built .

In addition, the company has specialized in the restoration of historical organs, for example by Silbermann , Robert Clicquot , Cavaillé-Coll and Merklin , and also builds small organs for music schools and clubs.

In the spring of 2015, the company filed for bankruptcy.
