Milkana is a German cheese brand from the Edelweiss cheese dairy in Kempten (Allgäu), part of the French dairy group Savencia Fromage & Dairy (former name: Bongrain ) . It is processed cheese with different product variations . The Milkana brand is also used for Camembert in Russia and for its own type of processed cheese in Egypt , both of which belong to the Savencia Group.

Milkana products are different variations and consistencies of processed cheese. Today, the manufacturer states that it uses GMO-free milk from around 320 farms in the Allgäu . The varieties have around 20 to 50 percent fat in the dry matter .

History and introductions

The product was launched in 1950 as Milka . The dairy product was sold as a Milka cheese platter . In 1952 the name was changed to Milkana . In 1954, Milkana cheese wedges in aluminum foil came on the market individually or in a round box. In 1962 Milkana Salami Corners came onto the market.

In 1972 the processed cheese came to be spread in a lockable bowl. In 1990, in line with the trend towards diet products , Milkana Leicht began producing , five years later the packaging design was updated. In 2004 the logo was renewed.

In 2009, Milkana introduced numerous flavors: with Emmentaler , Gouda and Spicy. In 2010, the brand's products were awarded the gold medal of the German Agricultural Society (DLG). A year later, Edelweiss introduced the cheese platter, which consists of cheese corners with different flavors in a round cardboard box . In 2012, the spreadable processed cheese with blue mold flavor was introduced.

In 2013, two flavors were launched under Milkana oven baguette : mushrooms and salami. It is a spread that is placed on sliced white bread , ideally on baguette , and baked in an oven with the aim of consuming it warm. In 2014 the packaging design was renewed.

  • Milkana counter products (large block of cheese as semi-hard cheese):
    • Emmental block
