The Milky Way (English for Milky Way ) is a mountain pass in the east of Alexander I Island off the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula . It runs between the southern part of the LeMay Range and Planet Heights and represents the highest point on a route between the Jupiter and Uranus glaciers .
The British geographer Derek Searle of the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey mapped it in 1960 using aerial photographs taken by the American Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (1947-1948). The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1961 based on the naming of the Planet Heights and the surrounding glaciers, all of which bear the names of planets in the solar system .
