Mill Ends Park (2007), the smallest park in the world

The Mill Ends Park is the smallest park in the world. It is located in Portland ( Oregon , USA ) in the district of downtown at the intersection of SW Taylor Street and SW Naito Parkway .

history

The park was previously an unused oval base with a hole 60 centimeters in diameter on the median of a street. In the period before 1948 the base was intended as a location for a lamp post . When this was not built, Dick Fagan († 1969), a journalist for the Oregon Journal , planted flowers there. In his regular Mill Ends column , he began reporting events in the park and a group of goblins based there .

On St. Patrick's Day in 1976, Mill Ends Park became an official park for the City of Portland.

Mill Ends Park (2004), before the street renovation in 2006

During the road renovation in 2006, the park was temporarily removed. It was rebuilt in March 2007 and the small oval is now aligned transversely to the axis of the road in favor of pedestrian traffic.

The area of the park is 0.3 m². It is often replanted or redecorated. The park's attractions included a swimming pool for butterflies and a miniature ferris wheel that was delivered with a normal-sized crane.
