Miltos Manetas

Miltos Manetas ( Greek Μίλτος Μανέτας , born October 6, 1964 in Athens ) is an international painter, video and network artist .

Life

Born in Greece , Manetas moved to Italy in 1984 and has lived in New York City and Los Angeles since 1996 . Today he lives in London , but sees himself as an international artist in the global network, not least because of his art presented on the Internet.

Topics and works

As a painter, Manetas is interested in the interaction between people and consumer electronics such as Playstations and computers. The characters Super Mario and Lara Croft are subjects of his short YouTube video films. Since 2000 he has been creating his net art under the name Neen (ancient Greek now , also an anagram of Screen ). Interactive websites were created which u. a. play ironically with Jackson Pollock's action painting or the countless pop art repetitions of Andy Warhol . The concept artist Joseph Kosuth can also be found here. In exhibitions he presented a. a. just a written down web address. At a workshop on existential computing in London in 2007 he made contact with punk artist and Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren .
