Flora and fauna
Thanks to their southern location, the Minami Mountains (Southern Mountains) only snow in winter. The alpine meadows offer a habitat for numerous animal and plant species. Thirty mammal species were counted, including the collar bear ( Ursus thibetanus ), the Japanese serau ( Capricornis crispus ) and the Japanese macaque ( Macaca fuscata ), which of all primate species has the northernmost distribution region.
