Minato-ku ( Japanese 港区 , dt. "Port District") is one of 24 boroughs ( ku ) of Osaka , Japan .

history

The municipality was created in 1925 from parts of Kita-ku and Nishi-ku. In 1932 Taishō-ku was separated as an independent municipality. Minato-ku received its current form in 1943.

The Hanshin highways No. 4, 5 and 16 as well as the national roads 43 and 172 run through the municipality of Minato. It is bordered by water on three sides: in the southwest by the harbor basin, in the northwest by the Ajigawa and in the southeast by the Shirinashigawa. Publicly operated passenger ferries cross both rivers. The Osaka ring line of the JR Nishi-Nihon , which runs through the district in the northeast, stops at Bentenchō Station . There it is also possible to change to the Chūō line of the Osaka subway , which continues to the southwest through the Minato-ku and connects it to the southwest through the Ōsakakō-Sakishima tunnel with the artificial island of Sakishima in Suminoe-ku.
