Minimum equipment regulation for Austrian fire brigades

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Minimum Equipment Ordinance is a minimum requirement of the Austrian volunteer fire brigades . They are ordinances of the individual federal states , in which it is specified which equipment the individual fire brigade must have at least, depending on the size of the location and the risk potential. According to these guidelines and an individual review, the respective state government prescribes the minimum level of equipment required for local fire protection for the individual municipalities .

Factors for the individual assessments are e.g. B. the topography , the number and construction of the houses and the type of businesses. Depending on the minimum equipment ordinance, the fire brigades receive subsidies from the respective state fire brigade association for fire fighting vehicles purchased .

If vehicles are older than 20 years (with a one-time extension up to 25 years), they fall out of the ordinance and the fire brigade is again entitled to subsidies for a new vehicle.

As a minimum for every fire brigade, a small fire engine or a team transport vehicle with a portable pump trailer represent the minimum equipment of a fire brigade.

On the one hand, these ordinances help the fire brigades to finance new vehicles for the municipality ;

In Styria, this regulation is known as the Minimum Equipment Directive (MARL). It enables the municipalities to flexibly maintain one or more fire departments or to delegate the tasks to third parties.

Historically, this ordinance goes back to regulations of October 1, 1943, in which the authorities of the German Reich had to provide adequate fire protection after bomb attacks.

In Lower Austria, the Minimum Equipment Ordinance was repealed on December 31, 2011 and replaced by an Equipment Ordinance, according to which requirements are re-evaluated each time a vehicle is purchased and is not specified in advance as a notice for the following years.
