Minh Thu Tran (* 1993 ) is a German journalist and podcaster .

Life

Tran grew up as a child of former Vietnamese contract workers in Bavaria. Her mother worked as a cleaner, her father as a restaurateur. She studied political science in Munich and Aix-en-Provence . She completed an apprenticeship as a multimedia journalist at the German School of Journalism (DJS) in Munich . There she met the journalist Vanessa Vu , also of Vietnamese origin . With her, she launched the podcast Rice and Shine in February 2018 . The podcast about Vietnamese identity was discussed by the Süddeutsche Zeitung of the taz and Vice , among others .

Tran lives in Cologne and works as a freelance journalist mainly for Deutschlandfunk Nova and Cosmo .
