The vehicle, which was officially presented on July 9, 2019, is initially only available as a Mini Cooper SE . This model has 135 kW (184 PS), which are fed from a 33 kWh battery. The battery does not affect the cargo space, because the required space is created by raising the chassis by 18 millimeters. The battery is located under the rear seat bench and in the center tunnel.

The electric motor was taken from the BMW i3 , but on the Mini it drives the front wheels. Together with the power electronics, this is designed as a complete module that, instead of the conventional combustion engine, fits into the existing mounting points in the engine compartment and accelerates the Mini up to 150 km / h. The sprint to 100 km / h takes 7.3 seconds, with the average consumption being specified as 13.2 to 15.0 kWh. This enables ranges of up to 270 km, in practice the range will be around 200 km. The interior is heated by a heat pump, which means that the range is less affected in winter.

You can charge with up to 11 kW alternating current or with up to 50 kW direct current, whereby a charge from 0% to 80% with 11 kW can be done in two and a half hours and with 50 kW in around 35 minutes.

The Mini Electric is available in four trim levels, called trim levels . The Trim S is the cheapest option and already has a wide range of accessories such as LED headlights or automatic air conditioning. In the Trim M , for example, Park Distance Control with a reversing camera is installed, in the Trim L the media package "MINI Connected Navigation Plus" and in the Trim XL leather seats and a panoramic glass roof are included.

The Mini Cooper SE has been available since March 2020. Further models of the Mini Electric are to be presented.

Mini E

A first electric version of the Mini has been tested in field trials for electric mobility in Berlin, Munich, London and the USA since 2009 . These models had an electric motor with 150 kW (204 hp), an acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 8.5 s and an electronically limited top speed of 160 km / h. The battery required so much space that it was placed in place of the back seat and there were only two seats in the vehicle. The trunk volume was also affected by the battery modules and amounted to 60 l. The range was specified with 200 to 250 km and the battery charging time with 2 hours.

Mini Electric Concept

The prototype of the Mini Electric was presented as the Mini Electric Concept at the IAA 2017 , after various test and experimental vehicles had been in the body of the Mini since 2009. For example, the BMW i3 drive in a Mini was tested for its suitability for everyday use and road use.
