Minnesota Hockey is the ice hockey umbrella organization of around 65,000 members in the US state of Minnesota . It was founded in 1947 as the Minnesota Amateur Hockey Association and is one of the largest associations in USA Hockey . The aim is to support and improve ice hockey in the youth and amateur field in the state of Minnesota. The seat is St. Paul . Dennis Green has been President of the association since 2002. The association's area is divided into 16 districts.

In 1947 Robert Ridder , Don Clark and Everett "Buck" Riley founded the Minnesota Amateur Hockey Association . Only later did the name change to Minnesota Hockey . In the first few years MAHA organized an adult competition. The winner was allowed to play for the national championship of the Amateur Hockey Association of the United States . In the 1947/48 season, 47 teams belonged to MAHA, around ten percent of all teams in Minnesota. Only gradually did the teams join the organization, which gradually expanded its activities - especially in the field of young talent. In 1973/74 the number of 2042 teams and in 1996/97 of 3881 teams was reached. For the 2009/10 season there are 53,450 players, 8,607 coaches and 2,913 officials (64,970 members in total) registered.

As a member of USA Hockey, the association has something special. Due to the extensive community-based structures already in place and the great importance of high school ice hockey (not belonging to Minnesota Hockey), the youth development programs in Minnesota differ from those of other associations.
