Minnetrista is a museum and cultural center in Muncie , Indiana about the history of the seven counties of Central East Indiana.

The Ball entrepreneurial family had relocated their glass production from Buffalo , New York to Muncie in 1887 .

In 1978 Margaret Ball Petty suggested to her cousin Edmund F. Ball that the Ball Brothers Foundation open a museum of art. A four-year study identified the cultural needs of the Middle East Indiana region. This highlighted the protection of the region's cultural heritage as a particular focus. On December 10, 1988, the Minnetrista Cultural Center was opened.

On a 16 hectare site, the Minnetrista maintains eight main buildings in which 65 employees and over 450 volunteers work. In addition to various gardens and museum facilities, the campus also includes a historic house, a nature area and various sculptures. Exhibitions and educational programs related to nature, history, botany and art are offered every year.
