Miquel Porter

Miquel Porter i Moix (born May 10, 1930 Barcelona , † November 18, 2004 in Altafulla near Tarragona ) was a Catalan film critic .

Porter studied history in Barcelona (graduating in 1954) and received his doctorate in 1976 with a thesis on the filmmaker Adrià Gual . His film reviews are characterized by a pronounced closeness to life and vitality. He is best known as a founding member of the Els Setze Jutges music group in the area of Nova Cançó Catalana .

Porter was one of the founders of the university magazine Curial (1949/1950) and participated in various cultural projects such as the experimental and traveling theater group Teatre Viu and the music group Els Setze Jutges belonging to Nova Canço . In particular, Porter was one of the key drivers for Nova Canço Catalana . He founded various film and cinema clubs such as the Cercle Lumière des Institut français . In 1957, together with his wife Guillemette Huerre, he founded the first children's cinema club in Catalonia. Porter is considered to be the author of a story in Catalan cinema. His research results on this are summarized in the basic work Història del cinema català (1895–1968) (German: “History of Catalan Film 1895–1968”). Since 1969 he has been professor of film history at the University of Barcelona . Since 1975 he has also headed the film section of the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona.
