Altafulla is a coastal town in the Spanish autonomous region of Catalonia , about ten kilometers north of Tarragona . The population on January 1, 2019 was 5243.

economy

The largest economic branch of the place is tourism, although Altafulla has so far been spared from mass tourism. The beach has been filled up and widened several times in recent years and is considered one of the cleanest in all of Spain.

Altafulla has a rail connection and is easy to reach via the nearby Reus airport and Barcelona international airport .

Attractions

The medieval city center ( Vila Closa ) is enclosed by a partially preserved city wall. There is a large, temporarily inhabited castle in the village. Excavations with remains of the buildings of the Roman villa rustica Els Munts are mainly housed in the Archaeological Museum of Tarragona . The village center is a listed building.

Culture

The patron saint of the community is Sant Martí (November 11th).
