from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mirabelle brandy is a fruit brandy made from mirabelle plums .

Mirabelle fruits on the tree

The domestic production of the spirit , as it has a tradition in rural areas, is carried out as follows: The ripe fruits are shaken from the trees, collected, filled into mash barrels and pounded. "Crushing" means that the peel of the fruit is mechanically destroyed, and this means that the fermentation process takes place faster. After a period of about six months, the mash is completely fermented and is distilled. The very high percentage (~ 80% by volume) distillate obtained is filled into large glass balloons for maturation and diluted with water to around 40% by volume before or after maturation before it is put on the market in glass bottles.

Mirabelle brandies produced by small producers can reach prices of up to € 100 per liter.
