Mircea Grabovschi

Mircea Grabovschi (born December 22, 1952 in Sighișoara ) is a former Romanian handball player and coach.

Life

Grabovschi first played basketball and only started playing handball a few years later. He was first at Dinamo Bucharest , where he won a national title and the Romanian Cup. In 1974 he won the world championship title with the team at the handball world championship in Berlin . Two years later he won with the team at the Olympic Games in Montreal a silver medal. In total, he played 199 times for the national team and scored 544 goals. He later worked as a trainer.

Honors

  • In 1976 he received the title Maestru Emerit al Sportului (Honored Master of Sports)
  • In 2009 he became an honorary citizen of his hometown Sighișoara
  • In 2009 he received the Order of Meritul Sportiv clasa a II-a
  • In 2013, a sports hall in Sighișoara was named after him
