Miria Obote

Miria Kalule Obote (born Miria Kalule ; born July 16, 1936 in Kawempe ) is a Ugandan politician.

She studied at Makerere University and later worked in the Ugandan Embassy in New York . In November 1963 she married the then Prime Minister Milton Obote .

Former President Milton Obote's widow returned to Uganda in October 2005 to bury her husband after 20 years in exile. On November 28, 2005, she was elected chairman of the Uganda People's Congress , the party her husband founded. She was one of six candidates for the presidential election on February 23, 2006 , in which she could only win 0.82 percent of the vote.
