Mirko Schallenberg (born July 19, 1967 in Northeim ) is a visual artist living in Berlin .

Live and act

Mirko Schallenberg began studying painting in 1989 at the Braunschweig University of Fine Arts . His teachers were Hinnerk Schrader, Karl Möllers, Arwed D. Gorella and Hermann Albert , whose master class he became in 1998. Schallenberg then received a one-year living and working grant from the Künstlerhaus Meinersen association in Meinersen . In 1995 he was a founding member of the Convention painters group . Between 2000 and 2002 the artist group Konvention opened a producer gallery of the same name, Konvention -Forum für Malerei- in Berlin. Newspapers appeared with articles and manifestos by the group of painters. From 2002 to 2005 Mirko Schallenberg was involved in founding the art association Blauer Salon eV in Berlin, which organized numerous exhibitions and saw itself as a platform for contemporary painterly research.

Mirko Schallenberg works in his large-format paintings, among other things, on an innovation in the old genre of still life in his oil on canvas . Using an enlargement of the motif, architectural thing pyramids are created with background references to metaphysical painting ( Pittura metafisica ), magical realism or surrealism . The object-like effect of the pictures is based on the idea of ​​the painted ready-made ( objet trouvé ). Large-format drawings with charcoal on canvas have been added to the work since 2010. From 2016, Schallenberg has a teaching position at the Academy for Painting in Berlin.

Mirko Schallenberg lives and works with his partner, the painter Kathrin Rank , and their son in Berlin.
