Pierantonio Mirko Tremaglia (born November 17, 1926 in Bergamo ; † December 30, 2011 ibid) was an Italian politician .

biography

After high school in Bergamo he joined the Guardia Nazionale Repubblicana of Benito Mussolini's Italian Social Republic as a volunteer at the age of 17 . After imprisonment with the Allies, he studied law, in which he also received his doctorate. He was admitted to the bar.

Mirko Tremaglia died at the age of 85 after a long illness in his hometown of Bergamo.

Political career

He was a member of the Camera dei deputati from 1972 until his death, first for the Movimento Sociale Italiano under Giorgio Almirante , and later for Alleanza Nazionale and Popolo della Libertà . Most recently - since July 2010 - he was one of the members of the FLI .

Within the party, he was committed to looking after Italians abroad. His main goal was to give them the right to vote in Italy.

After the political realignment of the Alleanza Nazionale in January 1995 at the Fiuggi party congress , he supported Gianfranco Fini . For this he organized a trip to the United States of America in 1995 , where contacts were made with the government and the Jewish community.

From June 11, 2001 to May 17, 2006 he was Minister for Italians in the World under Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi . In this function he achieved a constitutional amendment - called Lex Tremaglia - which from 2006 onwards strengthened the political influence of Italian expatriates eligible to vote.
