Miroslav Rys (born August 17, 1932 in Rozdělov , today Kladno ) is a former Czech football and ice hockey player .
Soccer
Rys started playing football at Sparta Kladno , then played for Baník Kladno . The defender made the leap into the first team at the age of 17 in the 1955 season. In 1957 and 1958, Rys played seven games for the Czechoslovak national B team. Kladno was relegated from the top Czech league in 1958, but managed to get promoted again in 1960. Rys completed his military service with RH Bratislava and RH Brno in the intervening years . The next descent with Kladno followed in 1965.
For Kladno, Rys played 188 first division games in which he scored 18 goals. In total, Rys completed 606 games for Kladno and scored 101 goals.
After the Prague Spring was crushed by the troops of the Warsaw Pact states in 1968, Rys emigrated via Yugoslavia and Austria to the United States , where he played for Sparta Chicago until 1980. For this club he also worked as a coach and president.
ice Hockey
Rys played ice hockey for SONP Kladno since his youth , with whom he became Czechoslovakian champion in the 1958/59 season. Rys represented the Czechoslovak national team at the Ice Hockey World Cup in 1959 and won the bronze medal with the selection.
Rys played a total of 301 games for Kladno, scoring 153 goals.
Private
Rys lost his son Miro in a traffic accident in 1977, his second son Roman was shot dead on the street on June 8, 1984. Not least because of this, he returned to his homeland four years after the collapse of the communist regime.
