Mirsad Baljić (born March 4, 1962 in Sarajevo , Yugoslavia , now Bosnia and Herzegovina ) is a former Yugoslav football player .

Career

Baljić began his career in the youth team of FK Sarajevo . In 1979 he went to FK Željezničar Sarajevo , where he was immediately in the first team. During his time in Sarajevo , he was part of the Yugoslav squad for the 1984 European Football Championship in France . Baljic was used once, Yugoslavia was eliminated in the group stage. Furthermore, in the same year he was in the squad of the Yugoslav U-21s, which took part in the Olympic Games in Los Angeles . Baljić won the bronze medal with the team. In 1988 he went abroad and the Bosnian moved to Switzerland for FC Sion . Baljić won the Swiss championship in 1992 and the Swiss Cup in 1991 . During his time in Sion , he was called up for the 1990 World Cup in Italy . He was not used, Yugoslavia made it to the quarter-finals. In 1992 he moved to FC Zurich , where he spent two more years of his career. Baljić ended his career with FC Locarno in 1994 .
