Sargocentron is a genus of the hussar fish (Holocentrinae). This genus includes 35 species with a rather compact physique that live in the Caribbean and the tropical Indo-Pacific .

Your body is 2.5 to 3.5 times longer than it is tall. The fish have a pointed mouth. The lower jaw does not protrude, as in the neoniphon genus . The last ray of the first, hard-rayed dorsal fin is just as far away from the first ray of the second, soft-rayed dorsal fin as it is from its front neighbor. Sargocentron species grow to be 7 to 45 centimeters long. They are reddish, brownish or silvery in color and often have longitudinal stripes on their flanks. The gill cover spines of some Indo-Pacific species of the genus are poisonous and can cause painful wounds. In the case of Atlantic species, no toxic effects are known.
