Mistley is a large village in the county of Essex , in the District Tendring . It is approximately 11 miles northeast of Colchester and borders Manningtree to the east . The village has a train station thanks to the Mistley railway station and is connected to the route network of the National Express East Anglia , a British railway company. The route of the Mayflower Line begins in the west at Manningtree and ends in the east at Harwich .

The Mistley Towers are the twin towers and only remains of the Church of St Mary the Virgin, which was demolished in 1870 . The parish church was built at the beginning of the 18th century. In 1776 the architect Robert Adam was commissioned to improve the church and had the two towers built. After the main building of the church was demolished in 1870, a larger church in neo-Gothic style was built nearby. In the 1950s, the Mistley Towers were restored after they were partially derelict.
