District

A district ( borrowed from the English district ) is an element of a spatial or administrative structure.

Word origin

The word district was borrowed from the English district from the Latin districtus (for "area around the city") . Moreover, it was probably this from the Latin distringere ( "hinder" among others "claim" and in the legal sense or "arrest") derived , and originally referred to one with special jurisdiction standing area in the sense of a Sperrbezirkes and later also in the sense of " Special administrative area “outside the regular administrative division . It is in this spirit today; however, still as a general translation of a foreign language name of a province or administrative unit (see also the Federal District District of Columbia in Washington, DC ).
