Mitch Woods & His Rocket 88s is a Californian blues band that was founded in 1980 by boogie pianist Mitch Woods (born April 3, 1951 in Brooklyn , New York City ). Their music, which they refer to as "Rock-a-Boogie", is based on the forerunners of rock 'n' roll from the late 1940s and early 1950s: jump blues , boogie woogie and rhythm and blues . Role models are musicians like Louis Jordan , Wynonie Harris , Joe and Jimmy Liggins , Amos Milburn and Roy Milton .

Career

In 1970 Woods moved to San Francisco , where he performed with singer Gracie Glassman under the name Mitch Woods & His Red Hot Mama . Together with the guitarist Hi Tide Harris, he founded Mitch Woods & His Rocket 88s in 1980 . In 1984 her first album Steady Date was released . They started performing at major blues festivals and in Europe.

The second album Mr. Boogie's Back In Town was released in 1988. The third album Solid Gold Cadillac (1991) they were supported by Ronnie Earl , Charlie Musselwhite and the brass ensemble Roomful of Blues Horns. The next albums were Shakin 'the Shack (1998) and Jump for Joy (2001).
