Mitsuo Matsunaga

Mitsuo Matsunaga ( Japanese 松 永 満 雄 Matsunaga Mitsuo ; * February 8, 1939 , † 2009 ) was a Japanese judoka . He won gold, silver and bronze medals at world championships.

Athletic career

Matsunaga took third place in the Japanese championships in the open class in 1962. At the World Championships in Rio de Janeiro in 1965 , he competed in the heavyweight division and lost to the Dutchman Anton Geesink in the final . In 1966 Matsunaga won the Japanese championships in the open class. At the 1967 World Championships in Salt Lake City, Matsunaga competed in the open class, in the final he defeated the German Klaus Glahn . In 1968 Matsunaga finished third again at the Japanese championships in the open class. In 1969 Mitsuo Matsunaga entered Mexico City for the third time at the Judo World Championships . In the pool final he was defeated by Giwi Onashvili from the Soviet Union. With a victory in the hope round over the Dutchman Dirk Eveleens he had the bronze medal safe, in the semifinals he was defeated by his compatriot Shūji Suma .
