The non-profit Central Eastern European Institute at the Ludwigshafen am Rhein University of Applied Sciences is an economic institution of the Ludwigshafen am Rhein University of Applied Sciences with Central and Eastern European expertise . It was founded in November 2006 by Professors Rolf Jakobi and Dieter Thomaschewski and is headed by Dieter Thomaschewski.

history

The foundation was an expression of the knowledge that knowledge about this regional area is limited. The organizations, companies, chambers of industry and commerce and political institutions involved in the Rhein-Neckar GmbH metropolitan region were convinced that there is a need to provide basic teaching, training and further education, applied research and the creation of (regional and international) Networking with a Central Eastern European Institute to further develop regional understanding of this area.

The institute was decided as an in-institute by the University Council and Senate of the FH Ludwigshafen. It has the right to take exams and issue certificates. The MOI started operations as an institution of the Ludwigshafen University of Applied Sciences in January 2008. An internal reorganization took place in 2010: Department I (FB I) including the planned course “International Management CEE” were organizationally linked to FB I “Management, Controlling, Health Care”.

The MOI complements the Triad East Asia Institute and Transatlantic Institute as a third component and contributes to the international competence of the university.

Fields of activity

The task of the institute as a competence center is to promote research and teaching, information acquisition and dissemination of information on the Central and Eastern European economic area in close interweaving of theory and practice.

Teaching

The conception of a Bachelor's degree in International Management - Corporate Growth and Organization with a focus on the target region of Central and Eastern Europe, which is currently in preparation, is geared to the needs of the international labor markets for economic specialists with interdisciplinary "Central and Eastern European competence" as an essential additional qualification for the Central - and Eastern European Economic Area. In addition to the economic focus, the focus is on imparting intercultural and linguistic skills. During the course of studies, sponsorships are sometimes established between companies and students. The priorities of the planned semester abroad are determined in cooperation with the respective sponsoring company and the respective partner universities in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe.

Continuing education and training

The advanced and advanced training consists of several modules. The topics range from macro and microeconomics , marketing strategies to personal and intercultural issues. The aim is to sensitize students and interested parties to the economic, scientific and cultural region of Central and Eastern Europe and to pass on the region's overall potential. The institute organizes conferences, seminars, workshops etc. and the annual "Go East" series of events, which is realized in cooperation with the International Office of the FH Ludwigshafen, the DAAD and companies in the metropolitan region.

The focus of applied research at the MOI is economic and increasingly interdisciplinary. The aim of the research projects is to develop innovative solutions and strategies for the sustainable economy and ecology in the CEE region and to promote international economic cooperation.

Among other things, the latest news from the economic area of ​​Central and Eastern Europe, information and links are published. In 2009, the information block on the MOI website was increasingly focused on the topic of "20 years of economic transformation and development in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe". Since September 2010, the MOI has been breaking new ground in a target-group-oriented manner and is also presenting current economic and cultural news on the MOE region on the common social media platforms.
