history

The University of Applied Sciences Ludwigshafen am Rhein - University of Economics was founded in 1965 as the State Higher Business School Ludwigshafen, which became part of the University of Applied Sciences Rhineland-Palatinate in 1971 as the Ludwigshafen department . In 1976 it was merged with the Worms department , which lasted until 1991. The Ludwigshafen University of Applied Sciences became independent in 1996. In 2004, the switch to Bachelor and Master courses took place.

The Protestant University of Applied Sciences Ludwigshafen was founded in 1948 as an Evangelical School for Church and Social Service, in 1964 it was converted into the Seminar for Social Professions - Higher Technical College for Social Work and had been a university of applied sciences since 1971. In 2007 the Evangelical Church withdrew from the sponsorship of the Evangelical University of Applied Sciences for financial reasons.

In 2008, the two Ludwigshafen universities merged to form the new Ludwigshafen am Rhein University of Applied Sciences , which now covers the areas of business administration as well as social and health care.

In 2012, by officially renaming the University of Applied Sciences Ludwigshafen am Rhein, the 2008 merger, which expanded the portfolio, took into account the increased research activity and the social position of the type of university of applied sciences. However, it still has the status of a technical college.

The formal renaming of " Ludwigshafen University of Applied Sciences " to " Ludwigshafen University of Economics and Society " on January 1, 2019, is intended to emphasize the focus of the university . The renaming was announced on September 25, 2018 as part of the 10-year celebration of the merger between the Protestant University of Applied Sciences Ludwigshafen and the University of Applied Sciences Ludwigshafen.
