The Deutsche Bundesbank acquired the castle in 1974 in a foreclosure auction from Schloss Hachenburg GmbH , which wanted to convert the castle into a hotel until it went bankrupt. The Deutsche Bundesbank then continued the renovation in order to build a training center here. Lessons could begin in 1976, but construction work on the Lower Castle lasted until 1982.
