Mittelstädt (family name)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mittelstädt is a family name.

The naming is related to the Thirty Years War , as the family counted themselves among the Protestants and thus got a fixed surname. The spread of the name goes back to the plague, Protestant politics and the wars of Prussia .

According to current research, the family name Mittelstädt originated in the north of the Uckermark in the 17th century. From there it spread within three generations in the Uckermark, the northern Ostmark and the island of Usedom in secondary lines. At the beginning of the 18th century another line can be found at Heydekrug (today Latvia ) and a second at Elbing . Another line in Poznan is not used .

The branch lines Mittelstaedt and Mittelstedt originate from the branch line in the northern Ostmark and developed around the 18th century.

Against the background of the evangelical creed, a Mittelstädt was raised to the Prussian postal aristocracy in 1880.

From 1800 the name spread nationally and internationally due to the onset of industrialization.

The research is ongoing and provides an overview of the data evaluated so far.
