Middle-aged train

The Mittlere-Reife-Zug , also M-Zug , M-Zweig or M-Klasse , is part of the Bavarian school system and a middle school-leaving certificate in addition to the qualified vocational training qualification (Quali) . The "M" stands for intermediate maturity . The M-Zug was introduced at many secondary schools as an alternative to the 4-year Realschule in lower secondary level in the 1999/2000 school year. Secondary schools in Bavaria with this offer are now referred to as secondary schools . Since a separate class has to be formed, several lower secondary schools sometimes have to join forces in less populated areas. In Baden-Württemberg secondary schools with M-Zug are called Werkrealschule , it differs slightly from the Bavarian M-branch.

The M-Zug starts in the seventh (M7) and ends in the tenth grade (M10) with the passing of the final examination for the middle school leaving certificate. The curriculum in the M-Zug corresponds to that of the secondary school up to grade 9, but is intensified a little, especially in the main subjects. In addition, M-pupils should be enabled to solve more complex tasks independently (increased requirement level). The actual secondary school-leaving certificate is only taught in the tenth grade so that secondary school students and lateral entrants who join later have the opportunity to make connections.

The middle school leaving certificate of the Hauptschule entitles, like the Realschule leaving certificate, to attend the gymnasiale Oberstufe (requirement: a second foreign language, usually French or Latin). In addition, the middle civil service career can be chosen (e.g. middle non-technical administrative service). Furthermore, you can then switch to the technical college , to acquire the technical college entrance qualification , and to a technical school or technical academy .

Advantages and disadvantages for the student

Within the school type Hauptschule, the pupils can be consistently prepared for the middle school leaving certificate over four years. This qualification is equivalent to the secondary school qualification and confers the same authorizations. The focus in the M-Zug is on German, mathematics and English. These subjects are also examined orally and in writing at the end. Another focus is the increased preparation for business and working life in the context of the subject “Work / Business / Technology”. Since the 2011/2012 school year, this subject has replaced the previously separate subjects work studies and KTB (commercial and technical area [computer teaching]). You don't have to change the type of school and you have familiar teaching methods. Most of the time, a great advantage in rural areas is that the way to school is shorter. The class teacher principle applies and work is increasingly practice and job-oriented.

A voluntary preliminary course is a good preparation for the technical college. It is aimed at secondary and business school students as well as all other eligible students who want to refresh their knowledge. The subjects German, English and mathematics are taught. This should make it easier to get started with the higher requirements of FOS 11.
