Mitutoyo Corporation ( Japanese 株式会社 ミ ツ ト ヨ Kabushiki Gaisha Mitsutoyo ) is a Japanese manufacturer of measuring instruments and measuring tools.

The company was founded by Yehan Numata ( 沼 田 恵 範 , Numata Ehan) on October 22nd, 1934 to sell a micrometer - the company's only product at the time. The company's philosophy was to be able to manufacture a high quality product in large quantities and thus also at affordable prices. Based on this philosophy, the product range was expanded to include other mechanical measuring equipment, such as vernier calipers and dial gauges .

In the 1970s Mitutoyo tried to expand its measuring instruments to include electronic components. This resulted in digital measuring tools that made it possible to read the measured value without errors . At the same time, the company began to produce large and complex measuring equipment, such as coordinate measuring machines . When statistical process control was introduced, Mitutoyo was a leader in the development of analysis software and operating elements.
