The Mizoguchi ( Japanese 溝口 氏 , Mizoguchi-shi ) were a family of the Japanese sword nobility ( Buke ) from the Owari province, which was derived from Minamoto no Yoshimitsu ( Seiwa - Genji ). With an income of 60,000 Koku , the Mizoguchi, who resided continuously in Shibata ( Niigata Prefecture ) from 1598 to 1868 , were among the larger Tozama daimyo of the Edo period .

genealogy

  • Hidekatsu ( 秀 勝 ; 1548-1610) received in 1598 the fiefdom ruled by the Shibata family of large farmers in the province of Echigo as a follower daimyō ( Yoriki daimyō ) of Hori Hideharu .
  • Naoyasu ( 直 養 ; 1736–1797) built the Dōgakudō ( 道 学堂 ) fief school in 1772 to promote education . In the school of was Yamazaki Ansai founded (1619-1682) Kimongaku direction ( 崎門学派 ) of Shushigaku ( 朱子学 ) of Neo-Confucianism taught. In 1775 the Igakukan Medical School ( 医学 館 ) was established.
  • Naomasa ( 直 正 ; 1855-1919) was the last daimyo, his honorary title was Shuzen no kami . After 1868 Count .

  1. The coat of arms, the "Shibata diamonds", is today the coat of arms of the city of Shibata.
