The Mobile World of the East is a museum for vintage cars that were produced in the Eastern Bloc . It is located in Calau , a small town in the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district in southern Brandenburg . It is run by the association of the same name, Mobile Welt des Ostens e. V. and opened on October 7, 2006 in the premises of a former car dealership.

The museum houses around 150 vehicles, from bicycles to passenger cars, which were produced in the GDR , Poland , Czechoslovakia , Hungary and the Soviet Union between the end of the Second World War and the fall of the Wall . Most of the vehicles are owned by the members of the association, but there are few donations and loans.

Examples of the exhibits are:

  • AWZ P70 luxury sedan, built in 1958 with an export version with standard folding sunroof
  • Barkas V 901/2 , rebuilt in 1963
  • EMW 327-2 Cabriolet built in 1953
  • EMW 327-3 Coupe built in 1955
  • EMW 340-4 medical vehicles: Four of these models are still known.
  • IFA F8 luxury convertible export from 1955
  • IFA F9 Cabriolet, built in 1955
  • IFA F9 station wagon, built in 1956
  • Jawa 500 OHC built in 1958
  • White Mars , built in 1921

As a special feature, for example, a Soviet ZIS-110 representative car can be viewed . According to the association, this is the only exhibit in a German museum. On the upper floor there is an exhibition with everyday objects from the time of the GDR. In 2013 around 5500 guests visited the museum.
