modeling clay

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

When modeling is in the designated materials, sculpture and Models are used in-adding, offeror or additive processes for the production of objects. In contrast, there are materials from which the object is formed in a subtractive process, for example in the processing of stones such as marble or the carving out of an object from a block of wood or polystyrene .

Conventional modeling are gypsum , clay and clay , modeling clay , wax and papier-mâché . While plaster of paris and paper mache are self-hardening materials that harden without further processing, loam or clay has to be fired at 900 to 1200 degrees Celsius in order to obtain a hard structure (the so-called ceramic ). Wax, on the other hand, remains soft and cannot be solidified. When it comes to modeling clay, there are those that remain soft and those that harden firmly ( plasticine ).

The hardening of the modeling clay gives the object a final solid shape. Non-hardening material, on the other hand, can be reused after a cast, for example a bronze cast , has been made of it. Clay is also often not fired, but recycled after a mold has been made.

Schubi flour is a modeling clay made from pre-glued wood flour, which after completion and air drying can be processed and treated like wood with tools.

Fimo is a modeling clay made of PVC , paints , fillers and plasticizers with partially toxic properties. In contrast, salt dough is an even edible alternative.
