Modestas Petrauskas (* in Vilnius ) is a Lithuanian brigadier general and has been his country's military representative to NATO and the EU since November 26, 2018 .

Life

Modestas Petrauskas was born in Vilnius, the then capital of the Lithuanian SSR . In 1991 he was one of the volunteers who (around Vilnius Blood Sunday ) had taken over the defense of the television tower and parliament.

Military career

Shaped by these experiences, Petrauskas joined the Lithuanian armed forces in the process of being rebuilt in 1992 and in 1995 belonged to the second class to receive his officer degree. In addition to domestic assignments, he was also deployed abroad in Bosnia and Georgia over the next few years. He also attended Command and General Staff College and King's College London , each of which he graduated with a master's degree. Among other things, he also served as an advisor to the President of Lithuania until he took over the post of chief instructor of the Lithuanian Special Operations Forces ( Lithuanian Specialiųjų operacijų pajėgos ). There he later moved to the post of chief of staff and finally became the unit's commander in 2015.

On November 23, 2018, he was promoted to Brigadier General. Three days later he took over the duties of the military representative of his home country to NATO and the EU.

Private

Modestas Petrauskas is married and has two children.
