Mogofores is a place and a former municipality ( freguesia ) in the Portuguese district ( concelho ) of Anadia . The community had 816 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).

history

Since the reign of King D.Sancho II. (1223–1248), today's town was officially known. King Manuel I gave Mogofores city ​​rights in 1514 after it had previously been a vila and a separate district for a short time .

Personalities

The aristocratic writer Manuel Ferreira de Seabra da Mota e Silva (1786–1872) died in Mogofores.

The musician José Cid lives here. He is the great-grandson of the local landowner Francisco Luís Ferreira Tavares, who died in Mogofores in 1912.

Mogofores is the seat of a municipality of the same name ( Freguesia ). In the course of the municipal reorganization in Portugal, it was decided to dissolve the municipality. The municipality has been officially dissolved as part of the municipal reorganization since September 29, 2013 and merged with the previous municipality of Arcos to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Arcos e Mogofores .
