Mogwai Young Team is the debut album by the Scottish post-rock band Mogwai . It was released in October 1997.

style

For the most part, the album consists of instrumental pieces - only RU Still in 2 It contains vocals - and there are more subtle words on other tracks on the album. The length of some pieces is striking (two have a playing time of over ten minutes; two more of over seven).

Musically, most of the pieces are limited to the instruments electric guitar, bass guitar, drums and sometimes piano / keyboard. In some cases, however, instruments such as flute or glockenspiel are also used.

reception

The album received very good reviews. Allmusic gave the record four and a half out of five points, Pitchfork Media , on the occasion of a new edition from 2008, 9.2 out of 10. Pitchfork also ranks the album at number 97 on its list of the Top 100 Albums of the 1990s .

Album cover

The album cover shows a section from an inverted photo by Brendan O'Hare showing the lower part of a high-rise building. In the foreground is a Japanese billboard that says “Fuji Bank”.
