Mohamed Hadid

Mohamed Anwar Hadid ( Arabic محمد أنور حديد, DMG Muḥammad Anwar Ḥadīd ; * November 6, 1948 in Nazareth ) is a Jordanian - American real estate developer of Palestinian origin. He is known for building luxury hotels and villas, primarily in Washington, DC and in the Los Angeles , California metropolitan area .

Life

Mohamed Anwar Hadid is a Palestinian who was born in Nazareth in November 1948 to a Muslim family. He is the son of Anwar Hadid (approx. 1908–1979) and his wife Khairiah. Through his mother he claims the descent from Hence Al Omer, Prince of Nazareth and the Sheikh of Galilee. Hadid has two brothers and five sisters. In 1964 he and his family moved to Washington, DC, where his father accepted a job with the Voice of America . He attended Washington and Lee High School in Arlington , where he was only a good student in mathematics due to his initially poor knowledge of English. He then attended North Carolina State University in Raleigh , but left shortly before graduation.

Entrepreneurial activity

In 1973 he first opened a car dealership in Washington and began importing old British luxury cars. Five years later he founded the American Export & Development Company , with which he exported American industrial products to the emerging oil states of Saudi Arabia , Kuwait and Qatar . From 1980 he dedicated himself to the real estate business in Washington. He founded the real estate company Oasis Development and, with a partner, the Hadid Investment Group . At that time he also had business dealings with the competing real estate developer Donald Trump . From 1983 he also developed hotel projects in Aspen , Colorado for several years , then he moved to Los Angeles and dedicated himself to the luxury real estate market.

Bankruptcy filing

In November 2019, Hadid declared bankruptcy after a court in Los Angeles ordered that he had to demolish his oversized mansion in Bel-Air , which was built on a hillside , as it threatened to slide down. The demolition would cost $ 5 million. However, a Californian judge rejected Hadid's bankruptcy petition on the grounds that it was only used to circumvent the ordered demolition. In June 2020, the California Supreme Court dismissed Hadid's lawsuit against the Demolition Ordinance as the final instance.

Private life

Mohamed Hadid is the father of the models Gigi Hadid , Bella Hadid and Anwar Hadid whom he got with his wife Yolanda Hadid, a Dutch model and TV personality.
