Mohamed Mimoune (born September 21, 1987 in Toulouse ) is a French professional boxer , former EBU European welterweight champion and former IBO world light welterweight champion .

Career

Mohamed Mimoune boxed with the amateurs until 2010 and made his professional debut on April 17th, 2010. He won the France tournament in June 2012 and suffered two point losses to Kamal Mohamed and Alexandre Lepelley in 2013, but beat the former in a rematch in January 2016 when he won the French welterweight championship. He was also able to defeat the undefeated Spaniard Ceferino Rodriguez (18-0) in April 2015 .

On May 6, 2016, he won the EU welterweight championship with an early victory against the also undefeated Spaniard Nabil Krissi (12-0) and then defended the title unanimously against his compatriot Damien Martin and the Finn Jussi Koivula.

On October 7, 2017, he defeated the British Sam Eggington in the fight for the EBU European welterweight championship just by points. After this fight, he was relegated to the light welterweight division and won the vacant IBO world title there on January 20, 2018 against the undefeated Argentine Emiliano Rodriguez (21-0). In October 2018, he beat Franck Petitjean in a title defense.

On April 27, 2019, he lost to Wiktor Postol on points , but defeated Darren Surtees (12-0) on November 22, 2019. He suffered another defeat on February 21, 2020 on points against Tyrone McKenna (20-1)
