Samuel "Sam" Eggington (* 15. October 1993 in Birmingham ) is a British professional boxer in the light middleweight and former European champion in the welterweight division .

Amateur career

Sam Eggington boxed as an amateur for the Warley ABC, playing 31 fights with 22 wins. In 2011 he won a bronze middleweight medal at the English Junior Championships ( ABA ).

Professional career

He made his professional debut on September 14, 2012 in Swansea . His trainer and manager is Jon Pegg, his promoter Matchroom Sport from Eddie Hearn. In April 2014 he defeated Johnny Garton (record: 11-0) and in September 2014 Denton Vassell (20-1).

On March 7, 2015, he defeated Shayne Singleton (20-0) by TKO in the fifth round and was thereby WBC International Silver Champion . In May 2015 he won a title defense by TKO in the seventh round against Joseph Lamptey (18-5) and thereby also became Commonwealth Champion . In July 2015, he prevailed against Glenn Foot (15-0) and won the British Championship ( BBBofC ). In October 2015, he won a title defense against Dale Evans (10-2).

On March 5, 2016 he lost on points to Bradley Skeete (22-1), but surprisingly won by TKO against Frankie Gavin (23-2) on October 22, 2016 and became WBC International Champion . In March 2017 he defeated Paul Malignaggi (36-7) by knockout in the eighth round and won the EBU European Championship on 13 May 2017 by knockout in the tenth round against Ceferino Rodriguez (24-1) . In October 2017 he lost it by a narrow point defeat to Mohamed Mimoune (18-2).

In June 2018 he defeated Peter Kramer (8-0) in the fight for the IBO Continental title. In September 2018, however, he lost prematurely in the second round to Hassan Mwakinyo (11-2). He suffered another defeat in March 2019 against Liam Smith (26-2).

In September 2019, he defeated Orlando Fiordigiglio (31-2) in the fight for the IBF international light middleweight title . He lost it on August 1, 2020 by losing points to Ted Cheeseman (15-2).
