Mohammed Baha 'Shattah ( Arabic محمد بهاء شطح, DMG Muḥammad Bahāʾ Šaṭṭaḥ ; * 1951 in Tripoli , Lebanon ; † December 27, 2013 in Beirut ) was a Lebanese economist, diplomat and politician of Sunni religion.

Life

Schattah studied at the American University of Beirut and the University of Texas and was a doctor of economics. He worked for the International Monetary Fund , most recently from 2001 to 2005, and was Vice President of Banque du Liban , the Lebanese central bank. From 1997 to 2000 he represented his homeland as ambassador to the USA . From July 2008, Shattah was a member of Fuad Siniora's cabinet as finance minister , and between 2005 and 2011 he advised Siniora and his successor as prime minister, Saad Hariri , on economic issues.

Shattah belonged to the future movement. He was killed in a car bomb attack on December 27, 2013 in Beirut on the way to a meeting of the March 14th party alliance, which was hostile to the Syrian ruler Bashar al-Assad .
