Alliance of March 14th
The Alliance of March 14th or Rafiq Hariri Martyrs List (in French Alliance du 14 Mars ; Arabic تحالف 14 آذار, DMG Taḥāluf 14 Āḏār ) is the pro-Western alliance of political parties in Lebanon led by Saad al-Hariri , the younger son of former Prime Minister Rafiq al-Hariri († February 14, 2005) who was killed in an attack on his vehicle convoy becomes.
It sees itself in the tradition of the Cedar Revolution of March 14, 2005, which led to the final independence of Lebanon from Syria . In the last parliamentary elections in Lebanon in 2005 and 2009 , the Alliance became the dominant group in the National Assembly . As a countermovement, the Alliance of March 8 was formed, which refers to the pro-Syrian demonstration on March 8, 2005.
Member parties
The core of the alliance is formed by the Christian Qurnat Shahwan Collection ( Kata'ib Party and National Liberal Party ), the Druze Socialist Progress Party (PSP) by Walid Jumblatt and the Sunni- Muslim Future Movement . The National Liberal Party and the PSP left the alliance, however, with the PSP switching to the Assad- affiliated alliance of March 8th.
