Mohamoud Ahmed Nur

Mohamoud Ahmed Nur (* 1956 ) is a Somali politician and was Mayor of Mogadishu from autumn 2010 to February 2014 .

Life

Only emigrated after the beginning of the Somali civil war . In his almost 20 years in exile he worked a. a. as a personnel consultant for the City of London , where he also ran as a City Councilor for the Labor Party .

Ahmed Nur put two public gardens and a women's basketball team through two public gardens and a women's basketball team in the war-torn Mogadishu. He also started citizens' groups against the garbage and tried to reactivate the street lights.

He receives regular threats from the Islamist organization Al-Shabaab .

In February 2011 he organized a music festival. This resulted in shootings in which Somali soldiers shot three civilians. This is said to have happened on the orders of his predecessor Mohammed Omar Habeb Dhere . He was then arrested by soldiers from the African Union .

In connection with the 2011 hunger crisis in the Horn of Africa , Ahmed only banned foreign members of non-governmental organizations from entering the areas ruled by al-Shabaab . These are not safe for the helpers.

On February 27, 2014, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud dismissed him from the office of mayor. His successor was Hassan Mohamed Hussein (also Mungab ) .
