Mohmand was a federally administered tribal area in Pakistan on the border with Afghanistan until 2018 . Mohmand has been part of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province since 2018 .

Conflicts

The region is considered a retreat and stronghold of the Taliban and al-Qaeda . In the conflict in north-west Pakistan , fighting occurs again and again between the armed forces of Pakistan and insurgents in the region.

On December 6, 2010, two suicide bombers attacked a tribal gathering. At least forty people were killed and sixty injured.

Because of the fighting between the Pakistani armed forces and insurgents, around 20,000 people fled Mohmand in February 2011.

On November 26, 2011, between 24 and 26 Pakistani soldiers were killed in an attack by NATO on the Pakistani base in Salala in Mohmand. The incident sparked massive disagreements between the two governments.
