The moidore is a Portuguese gold coin that was minted between 1640 and 1732 .

The Moidore was used as a currency in Western Europe , the West Indies and partly in Barbados . The name moidore is derived from the Portuguese moeda de ouro , which means something like "money made of gold" or "coin made of gold".
