Mona Hofland

Mona Hofland Skjønberg (born June 24, 1929 in Oslo ; † February 11, 2010 there ) was a Norwegian actress .

Mona Hofland made her stage debut in 1949 and was initially tied to the Studioteatret in Oslo, which had been founded shortly after the war by artists from the former Norwegian resistance movement . In 1953 she moved to Oslo Nye Teatret , where she achieved her artistic breakthrough. Among other things, she played in a dramatization of the novel by Alexandre Dumas the lady of the camellias and the role of the historically traditional bishop's wife Anne Pedersdotter , who was burned as a witch after a sensational trial at the end of the 16th century. She was also the first Norwegian to play the flower girl Eliza Doolittle in the musical My Fair Lady .

From 1967 until her retirement in 1999 she was engaged at the Oslo National Theater. Here she was seen in more than fifty different productions, including as Pernille in Ludvig Holberg's early Enlightenment comedy The Busy , as Mother Courage in Brecht 's play of the same name and as Alice in August Strindberg's married drama The Dance of Death .

Mona Hofland made her first experiences with the film in 1948, when she took on an extra role in the Swedish production Dit vindarna bär (Where the winds carry) . In 1957 she played her first leading role in the Norwegian contribution to the Berlinale, Stevnemøte med glemte år (Rendezvous with Forgotten Years), based on a novel by Sigurd Hoel . Further roles followed in domestic and occasionally international productions. In 2002 she came to German cinemas with the Wassmo film Dina - My Story . In the nineties she acted in several Norwegian television series.

Mona Hofland was married to the actor Espen Skjønberg. She has received several awards, including the Order of Saint Olav .
