Monica Nève de Mévergnies (* 1933 ) is a Belgian musician, conductor and socially committed woman.

Monica Nève was born Monique Nolet de Brauwere van Steeland in 1933. She had seven siblings. When she was seven she started playing the piano; later she learned the flute and drums. Singing was also always important to her. She trained as a conductor. In Rome, where she came to play the piano, she devoted herself to art history , a study that she later completed in Brussels . She married the engineer Emmanuel Nève de Mévergnies and had five children with him. After a year in America and four months in Lubumbashi in the Democratic Republic of the Congo , she took care of the upbringing of her children from 1960 onwards and at the same time perfected her musical training.

In 1975 she founded the non-profit association Nativitas with her husband and four other people . At first it was just a matter of giving poor people in the Marolles district of Brussels something to eat, clothing and human warmth.

In 1986 the club moved to two neighboring houses on Rue Haute. Since then it has been able to provide around 70 meals a day, food packages, rooms, showers, second-hand clothing, a social station and other activities. In 1976 the association was able to expand its cultural project. Language courses, courses in reading music, guitar courses, excursions and tours were offered and a choir was founded.

On February 1, 2008, Monica Nève received an honorary doctorate from the Université catholique de Louvain (UCL) for her struggle for humanity .
